Who this task will support
StreetBox Surplus House
Streetbox London CIC redistributes surplus food in Haringey & Haringey. We're a small but innovative little organisation that is working for a better food system. We distribute over half a million meals worth of mostly fresh produce and other goods, help others get access to better value nutritional food, and generally get stuck into the conversation about making our food system fairer. This project in a new (but battered!) space, brings together our shared love of sorting surplus, teaching people about food, and bringing folks together for a meal.

The charity StreetBox is set up to reduce food waste and fight food poverty. They have taken on a new space in Stamford Hill and need help preparing it for operation. Fit out will use mainly surplus building materials from demolitions and left overs at the end of construction projects. The finished space will provide a community cafe and shop, alongside a commercial kitchen and space for workshops.

At this stage the need is for extra help to clean up the space, sort out donations and move things around. This will involve sorting things into crates (e.g clothes vs toys); identifying items that might not be useful; bagging rubbish; sweeping up, etc

We're looking for a minimum 4 volunteers to help out.

The premises is dusty. Masks will be provided.
