Who this task will support
Foodcycle Mitcham
FoodCycle is a UK charity that combats food waste, food poverty, and social isolation by providing free, nutritious meals and welcoming spaces for anyone in need. The charity collects surplus food that would otherwise go to waste and works with volunteers to transform it into wholesome, vegetarian meals, served at community events across the country. More than just a hot meal, FoodCycle projects offer a friendly, supportive environment where guests can connect with others, reducing loneliness and building a sense of community. Whether someone is struggling to make ends meet, feeling isolated, or just in need of a warm meal and conversation, FoodCycle provides a place to belong.

This session at Foodcycle Mitcham saw a higher-than-usual turnout, with approximately 30 guests in attendance. Despite receiving a limited delivery of fruit and vegetables, the team adapted quickly and efficiently. Our chefs prepared a hearty vegetable and rice curry, which was well received, and served cake for dessert.

A particularly heartwarming moment was when one guest brought along her emotional support puppies, which brought smiles and comfort to many of the guests and volunteers.

Overall, it was a successful and uplifting session that demonstrated flexibility, teamwork, and community spirit.
