Surbiton Rotary Christmas collectionPlease note that this community mission has been cancelled.
For over 50 years, Surbiton Rotary club members and volunteers hit the streets with Santa on his sleigh, playing festive music, for 15 nights in December. Children and adults alike come and enjoy the bright lights of the sleigh and Santa’s friendly wave and give a donation to help local causes. Last year the collection raised over £6000.
Surbiton Rotary's sleigh has a busy schedule and it is out most nights in December and they have asked for support from GoodGym for three of these nights to keep the enthusiasm going and help raise as much as they can from the community to support local charities.
Santa will be in his sleigh and the GoodGym volunteers will knock on doors so the kids can see him and the parents will, hopefully, throw any loose change into the collection buckets. Last year they raised over £6000 over the month to support the elderly, young and other disadvantaged people in the Borough.
This really is the meaning of Christmas and if you want a feel-good activity over the festive break then this is the perfect task.
Risks
Normal risks of traffic, etc. They have a very good safety record over the many years of this project.
Notes
Surbiton Rotary will provide briefing, tabards and a list of charities benefitting. Please dress accordingly for the weather - it could be cold and even rainy so have warm layers and don't forget a festive hat, if you have one. There will be lots of walking so wear comfortable footwear as well.
The task owner is Jeremy. Please meet at the top of Villier's Hill by Burney Avenue.

Sorry to say that Jeremy from Surbiton Rotary has been in touch and the Santa sleigh tasks have all been cancelled 😞. Problems with insurance and permits. Such a shame.
Look out for other Christmas themed tasks in December though.
