Who this task will support
Merton Friends of the Earth
As a Friends of the Earth local group, we strive to protect the natural world and the wellbeing of everyone in it. We collaborate with other groups in the London Borough of Merton and beyond for a clean, green neighbourhood, and we also support Friends of the Earth’s national and international campaigns. From organising tree planting events to lobbying our local councillors and MPs, we campaign and develop projects on a range of issues to help tackle the climate and ecological crisis

Welcome to WWF x GoodGym’s Workout for Nature

From 7th April WWF and GoodGym are collaborating on hundreds of sessions to celebrate Earth Day. Each session will involve a Workout for Nature - a physical volunteering activity which will benefit local green spaces, and give your own wellbeing a boost. Simply sign up below and come along. No experience required!

For this task we will be supporting Merton Friends of the Earth with looking after the young tree saplings by weeding and adding mulch around them. This is an essential part of trees' early growth, and gives them the best chance to thrive as weeds compete with saplings for water, sunlight, and nutrients.

Tools and training will be provided but if you have gardening gloves these would be handy to bring along. We recommend wearing sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. A drink and snack might also be a good idea.

The event will be running from 9.30-11.30am and you are welcome to join for the full session but the Merton FoE team have requested extra help from Goodgym volunteers and we will have one of the taskforce team attending at 10am. It's also worth signing up at the link below so the organisers can keep everyone updated with further info or if there are any last minute changes due to weather: https://actionnetwork.org/events/merton-foe-tree-care-event-3-may-2025-930-1130am-session/?source=direct_link&

The SM4 4AZ postcode should take you close to the idverde site close to where the saplings have been planted but once inside the park you will need to find the other volunteers who are likely to be situated close to the what3words location: ///under.cities.pulled
