WWF x GoodGym Lambeth: Urban Greening

Welcome to WWF x GoodGym’s Workout for Nature

Throughout April WWF and GoodGym are collaborating on hundreds of sessions to celebrate Earth Day. Each session will involve a Workout for Nature - a physical volunteering activity which will benefit local green spaces, and give your own wellbeing a boost. Simply sign up below and come along. No experience required!

Last year SE27 Street Gardeners started gardening along Norwood Road to replant and look after nine pavement beds created by removing paving slabs and establishing garden beds around existing street trees.

The SE27 Street Gardeners are adding more plants and will be nurturing the beds on an ongoing basis. The project aims to improve the main shopping street by adding greenery so that it’s a great place to live, socialise and work.

Green spaces improve air quality, reduce the risk of flash flooding and reduce urban heat stress in our increasingly hot summers. By choosing plants that support pollinators like bees, the planting will also be improving biodiversity. The group meet for relaxed Sunday morning gardening and in summer they are planning some Thursday evening gardening. Sessions are drop in but they are hoping for regulars who really get to know and love the plants.

There is the possibility that keen gardeners take on a single bed along with another person.

Age is no barrier although due to the busy road nearby it isn’t recommended to bring along small children. This is social gardening so there is an optional café or pub social afterwards!
