A task of two halves - final score: Louise 2 - challenges 0!
1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Newcastle.
- Saturday, 27th of June 2020
It seems like ages that I've been looking forward to my first mission, so although I was a little unsure about my ability to complete the second challenge of the task I decided to go for it. It was lovely to meet the delightful Mrs F who is from the Philippines and has lived alone since her husband died. I was up to the first challenge - supermarket shopping on a Saturday afternoon. This was achieved with little resistance - I was 1-0 up! The second half proved more of a challenge. Mrs F wanted to be able to make video calls with her sister and cousins in the Philippines but she couldn't get the video part of the calls to work. First we tried on her tablet but without success. Next we tried her phone, also without success (although I did manage to set the date and time correctly!) In extra time I decided to try the laptop. The opposition was proving powerful and I was on the verge of accepting a 1-1 draw but in the dying seconds I somehow pulled victory out of the jaws of defeat! The only downside was that by then it was midnight in the Philippines so everyone was in bed but Mrs F practised a few times and is now looking forward to the full video call experience with her family! Result!
