Beauty is in the eye of the GoodGymer
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Hackney.
- Sunday, 5th of March 2017
On Saturday morning Becky and I met Beautine at the Seventh Day Adventist church in Clapton to do a bit of de-weeding. Beautine was a great host, telling us about the different uses for the church over its almost 200 year history. For a while it was derelict and used as a squat but it's back to being a church now and hosts various community groups, a choir and music lessons. While we worked we told Beautine about all the things that we get up to at GoodGym and talked about how much the area has changed in the 30 or so years that Beautine has been living there. We worked hard to weed and turn the soil in the garden and could see a large difference by the time we finished. We found that the rain forecast also held out for us and only began the moment we hung our spades up. After an hour and a half we'd already overfilled a big brown bin with weeds and made a good dent in the work to be done to make the churchyard beautiful again.
