A Tiny Forest needs your help

For biodiversity week May 18th - 26th, Earthwatch is calling for your help to count the wildlife in your local Tiny Forest.

Biodiversity is crucial to the success of local green spaces. To promote the creation and growth of more green space in urban areas, GoodGym is working with Earthwatch on their Tiny Forests initiative. A Tiny Forest is just as it sounds, a small, dense and fast-growing native woodland the same size as a tennis court.

With GoodGym having supported the planting of these forests all across the country, it’s time to see who’s moved into these new nature neighbourhoods.

For biodiversity week May 18th - 26th, Earthwatch is calling for your help to count the wildlife in your local Tiny Forest. Designed to be quick and easy to complete, all you need is 15 minutes and a phone.

You can go solo or bring friends and family, spending time in nature to count what you come across. You can count bugs, butterflies, pollinators or ground dwellers…or all of the above. GoodGym will also be hosting sessions to contribute towards the national wildlife count. If you’re in an area with a Tiny Forest, please join us. Find a list of all GoodGym areas with a nearby Tiny Forest at the bottom of the page.

Never heard of Earthwatch or their Tiny Forests?

Each Tiny Forest hosts a diverse mix of native trees and shrubs. These mini forests are planted in urban areas to bring more nature to people’s doorsteps.

As a growing habitat, Tiny Forests are vulnerable and require regular care and attention to ensure their success. GoodGymers across the UK chip in by visiting Tiny Forests to prune, dig, mulch, weed and plant a path to healthy green spaces in their area.

Some GoodGymers, such as Paul from Barnet, have taken it a step further. Taking it upon himself to undergo a tour of 7 different Tiny Forest locations last August. He hosted everything from educational sessions to yoga classes at each location, blogging about it as he went. His goal was to raise awareness and inspire action for two causes close to his heart.
