Dorothy House Hospice

We provide compassionate care and support for people in our community with a life-limiting illness. Our focus is on quality of life, helping patients to live well and die well.
We give care and support to patients and their families across a 700sq mile area, which includes Bath & North East Somerset (B&NES), and parts of Wiltshire and Somerset. Our services are provided whenever and wherever they are needed; at home, in the Hospice, or in our community. We respect the uniqueness of each patient and their family, and empower them to choose the type of care they receive.

8 GoodGymers have supported Dorothy House Hospice with 6 tasks.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Sunday 3rd December 2023

Thankfully the weather was a bit warmer than the icy temperatures of Saturday. With only rain to contend with, we were dressed suitably in our waterproofs to stand out in the elements to cheer on the participants of the Dorothy House Santa run.

Around 100 people wearing Santa suits jogged, walked, skipped and were pushed past our marshal point around the 2.5 km loop course.

We had the steep hill section so most people were holding onto their baggy trousers in a desperate attempt to keep them up!

Thankfully the costumes held it together whilst out on the course but we're not aware of how many made it to the finish line! Felt and water are not a good mix!

A great morning had by all

It's always snow much fun with the Goodgym crew

Sunday 5th December 2021

If we were not feeling Christmassy before this task; we were certainly feeling it afterwards!

Our group arrived for 10am to hear where we would be marshalling out on the run course around Bath Spa university.

We bought bells and santa hats and stood at our posts making as much noise as possible to encourage the runners of all ages around the route.

There were two distances available; the 2.5km and 5km. All the runners were dressed in santa suits and big smiles. They were raising money for Dorothy House hospice and many had sentimental messages written on their backs as they were running in memory of loved ones.

The run came and went as quickly as our post race soup and to our surprise we were sprayed down with a snow gun as the finale. As we danced around in the fake snow, listening to the Christmas tunes we all left with big smiles on our faces knowing that our contribution had helped a fantastic charity and also our own Christmas cheer. Ho ho Ho. Now where is that eggnog and mince pies :)
