FoodCycle Sheffield Parson Cross

Free, Three Course Community Meals available to all
We take surplus food that was going to waste and cook it up into delicious three course meals that we serve each week to anyone who wishes to dine with us. Guests may be hungry or lonely, or simply wanting to dine out for the evening.

Grubs Up

Wednesday 24th January

Written by Rachel (she/her)

Myself and Natalie both volunteered as hosts at Foodcycle this month (although on separate days).

They provide a free weekly meal and company to all who wish to attend, all made from waste food.

We took on the role of hosting - welcoming serving drinks and food and washing up at the end. It's enjoyable and you get a free dinner for your effort! (we even got big sharing bags of crisps to take home this week)

Join us next time - we'll plan to go again in a couple of months. Full disclosure, I forgot to take any photos, so used one from last time we went!

Flyering for Foodcycle

Tuesday 18th July 2023

Written by Rachel (she/her)

Not letting the rather grim weather forecast put us off, 4 Goodgymmers made their way to Foodcycle in Parson's Cross to help them spread the word about their fantastic project in the local area. We were rewarded with a stop in the rain for the duration!

We met with Mathew from Foodcycle, who made the referral after having a great response when GoodGym Leeds did some leafleting for a local project . Foodcycle offers a free weekly communal meal to any who wants it, made from fareshare food. To be sustainable, it needs enough guests and enough volunteers.

We took a stack of leaflets each and worked our way around the local streets. Amongst the barking dogs and occasional difficult access, we had some really positive interactions with locals who were keen to volunteer. We hope this is born out in future attendance!

Afterwards, we headed back to join for the delicious 3 Course vegetarian meal, whilst reflecting on a successful task, evangelising about GoodGym and plotting to come along and volunteer cooking and hosting another time.
