Tonight's GoodGym mission saw us racing against a (frankly beautiful) setting sun as 11 GoodGym-ers headed to the gardens outside Trinity Hospital in Greenwich, with the aim of helping tidy this area by the Thames Riverside.
Our tasks included a lot of weeding of plant beds, clearing away fallen autumn leaves, as well as a good pruning session to chop back overhanging trees/shrubs including the aforementioned Buddleia. A tough battle was fought but all too soon, the setting sun gave way to a Harvest Moon, signalling our task was done for the evening and we could head to the pub!
Hopefully we had a positive impact on this lovely area by the river. Thanks all!
Next week we're at the Prince Maritime Collections Centre. Until next time!

I don't know why I bother looking at the weather forecast these days. It seems a bit pointless. But despite an unscheduled shower, the rain took a pause just as we arrived at the raised beds outside the old Trinity Hospital. Julian and co did a run through the park while Fiona and I trundled down from Christchurch School Community Garden with the tools for the job, the litter pickers, loppers and trowels and forks all packed neatly into a very handy barrow. I don't know what to call it because it's far more sophisticated than a barrow.
Anyway, we got to work and spent a very satisfying 45mins weeding and between us collected what must have been 10 or so barrows full of weeds. On the animal front we watched some peregrines wheeling about above us and Kerry was particularly taken with several snail families who we had unearthed from the wilderness and who we re-housed in their tidier shrubbery. We even left some GoodGym leaflets out for those curious passers by who couldn't help smiling to see us working away.
Finally, nursing lots of nettle stings, we called it a night and made our way home. Job very well done team!
Next week we're back at Hervey Road. Until next time!

On a wonderfully warm evening, a great group of GoodGymmers gathered in Greenwich (try saying that fast!).
With faces old and new, we were already feeling hot, so Run Leader Jen took a different approach to the warm-up - a photo treasure hunt! Provided with a list of pictures we needed snap, we set off at pace around Greenwich Naval College. One picture included building a human pyramid and another using our bodies to create the GoodGym logo. Both teams came up with imaginative ideas, and used creative flourishes to set their pictures apart (I'm thinking specifically of Julian's impressive catwalk!) Once fully warmed up and feeling like a bunch of kids, we set off to run the 2 minutes to our task for the evening - gardening at Trinity Hospice!
Welcomed by friendly volunteers, we were guided on which flower beds were to be weeded and provided with tools to get started. Many thistles and pesky weeds gave some of us a bit of a fight, but as that famous phrase goes: 15 GoodGymmers (including awesome first timer, Lydia) make light work! We ended up clearing a lot of space, ensuring that the beds looked tidy for users of the Thames Path.
However all out hard work made for a thirsty group, so we headed off to The Yacht to refuel and catch a beautiful view of the sun setting over the River Thames.
