Wednesday saw us back at Hurst Community Centre, this time to collect litter from around the grounds.
First the car park. Armed with pickers, gloves, and bags we blitzed the rogue crisp packets, stray coffee cups, and cheeky cigarette butts lurking between cars.
Then the rubbish that had accumulated along the boundary walls around the lawn.
Since recce-ing this task the grass had become a thigh-high jungle, and we joked about needing a scythe to cut a pathway though. Still, we swish-swish-swished our way to the wall and started clearing up.
It wasn't long before we realised that sharp grass seeds had launched a stealthy assault on our feet - socks and shoes suddenly felt like they were lined with needles.
To a genuine cry of 'I'm a GoodGymer, get me put of here', we declared a tactical retreat.
Safely out of the grass we took a few minutes to sit down and pluck the spiky seeds from our footwear (and check for ticks).
After a final sweep of the car park to collect more sweet wrappers and rubbish from vacated bays, we headed home.
Prickly grass seeds aside, this was a task full of laughs, storytelling and impromptu trivia snacks. All part of the GoodGym fun.
Note to self: definitely no more wading through long grass on future tasks!
Tried to think of a litter‑picking pun to end this report, but they were all rubbish!
See you next time.

Tonight we made a return visit to Hurst Community Centre, this time to clear leaves from the outdoor area used by the nursery school.
It was a proper workout raking the soggy leaves into piles, scooping them into bags, and moving the bags aside for disposal.
Thirty five bags in fact!
It was a lovely evening to be outdoors and we worked hard to finish the job in just an hour. Now it's ready for the nursery children to enjoy tomorrow.
After posing for a group photo we headed off.
It was to fab to have Greg with us, welcome to GoodGym and congrats on your first good deed 👏.
This task was part of GoodGym's collaboration with WWF's Workout For Nature initiative, encouraging us all to get out in nature while giving it a helping hand.

Tonight we got busy at Hurst Community Centre washing the outdoor play equipment used by Bexley Bears Nursery.
Things were pretty sandy from the sandpit, so our starting point was to brush everything down. 🧹
Then it was on with the rubber gloves and filling buckets with soapy water to give the toys a good scrub. 🪣 🫧 🧽
Tempted to sing while we cleaned, we had to be mindful of the ballet class taking place in the hall with open windows next to where we we're working. So there was plenty of quieter chatting instead.
Finally we sloshed away the suds with fresh water and the job was done in just under an hour. All ready for the children to play on tomorrow.
Next week we're indoors tidying the music room at Holy Trinity Lamorbey School. Variety is the spice of life with GoodGym. Come and join us!
