Carpet laying Part-Deux

Great start to the task - I was complemented on my woolly hat by a fellow West Ham fan who is one of Living Well shop volunteers.

Great day for an indoor task whilst Storm Bert was outside!

Myself, Phil and Jane other arrived when Living Well were closing up after busy day trading.

We were carrying on from last weeks first part of the task. The first half of the shops new carpet had been laid. It was time to move, and prep for the carpet fitters arriving on Monday morning.

Half a dozen crates packed with stock, 4 shelving units unscrewed from the wall and moved to the front of the shop.

The big task of the day was now at hand move the tri part till/payment desk.

After all the furniture was moved, it was time for a quick sweep up and our work was done.

We then send goodbye to Living Well and went of to brave the wind and rain to make our journeys home.

Shop lifting (well, for 5 minutes…)

Saturday 16th November

Written by Hannah

A definite contender for world record for the quickest Goodgym task ever…! Paul, Charlie and Hannah joined Libby at the Living Well charity shop to shift some furniture from one half of the shop to the other. This is so that half of the new carpeting can be put in and keep the shop looking good to raise money for Living Well’s important food bank and other vital services. The whole task took under 10 minutes! Same time and place next week for the other half of the shop…

P-p-p pack up a parcel

Saturday 16th December 2023

Written by Ria

Many hands really do make light work! Goodgymmers showed up this afternoon at Holy Trinity Church to help Living Well Bromley sort and pack up Christmas bag donations to be distributed to those in the community next week.

The task was organised like a well oiled machine, in fact so well organised that the initial task of packing 150 bags worth of groceries from storage was completed in no time, so the team then set out to check pre packed bags that had been donated, ensuring that each bag fulfilled the checklist and if not, ensuring they did.

A few in the team gave themselves the challenge of trying to memorise the checklist, however it was soon established they probably shouldn't trust their memories to complete the task.

The final result was a total of 300 bags ready to be distributed next week. Not bad for an hour and a half!

P-p-p-pick up some pasta

Saturday 7th October 2023

Written by Ian Moore

Ria, Nick and Ian lent a hand to the volunteers who run the Living Well foodbank, sorting the many bags and boxes of harvest donations into the different food types. Surprising how heavy one of those big plastic tubs gets when you fill it up with dry pasta, let alone four of them!

We’re making a list, we’re checking it twice... Gonna find out what’s naughty or MICE

Saturday 10th December 2022

Written by Hannah

A great community task on a frosty day for Cat, Hannah, Amanda (2nd Bromley GoodGym outing - please cheer!), Gemma and Anna (both 1st timers with GoodGym - please cheer even more!).

We all set to work with the other Living Well volunteers, checking through a list of items to make sure every Christmas bag from the food bank would have all the right goodies, from tea bags to tinned veg to toilet roll. We also had to remove some items to set aside for later so that they wouldn’t be attacked by cheeky mice in the meantime! All the packages will go to families and residents of the local area who need it. I think we reached a total of 160 full bags in the end, with a few more to be added soon. Great work!
