GoodGymming from dust 'til dawn

Monday 17th May 2021

Written by Alice Dalrymple

We had a fun (and very dusty) time at the Southbank Centre evening sanding down the walls ready for a new lick of paint ahead of them re-opening later this week. Alice and Phill scaled the scaff (fully safe) whilst Mel, Sarah and I worked at ground level. The noise of sandpaper on wall is not a nice one but luckily the lovely company made up for it!

How I managed to get dust inside of my face mask I'm not sure and my Garmin thinks I did a lot more steps than I really did thanks to the sanding efforts.

Great to be GoodGymming and thanks to Alice W for the pun which I stole from your Strava!

Six GoodGymers went to the Southbank Centre to help with their presentations for reopening. We spent the time clearing the outdoor space, which involved hauling rubble, using various methods, to make their outdoor space usable. Be there from Thursday 🍻😁😎

Foot loose!

Thursday 3rd September 2020

Written by Alice Whale

Another excellent mission to help community venue Southbank Centre get their dance floor cleared of wood, paint and junk and up into the attic so they can get swinging and jiving back on the menu on Monday.

Various techniques were used to move the junk including human chains and passing planks of woods through a gap in the ceiling.

Poor Jenny managed to put her foot through a ceiling panel at one point, alarming a GoodGymer underneath when a foot appeared out of nowhere - taking the saying 'putting your foot in it' to a whole new level .

A chilled drink at the end was a much needed refreshing end to a demanding yet satisfying task.

Hoover thought we would get this done in time for 4th July was...spot on!

Friday 3rd July 2020

Written by Shreena Parmar

T'was the evening before re-opening at the Southbank so there was plenty to do! The Southbank is a community space that previously held dance classes and other arts based events. As it's not possible for these classes and events to take place at the moment it used the lockdown period to do some work on the place and is re-opening as a bar type venue.

A huge welcome to Emma and Liz who have recently joined Goodgym and came for the first (and second) time! We look forward to seeing you again soon.

There were floors to sweep and mop, tables and chairs to set up and the and curtains also had a go over with Henry Hoover.

This was our 6th visit there and I'm all punned out! All the best to the Southbank for its reopening and thank you to everyone who attended the community missions over the last few weeks!

Dust’in time for Shree’s salsational centurion celebrations

Thursday 2nd July 2020

Written by Bristol runner

First of all try saying the title after a couple of drinks. Second and more importantly a massive congratulations to Shreena who reached 100 good deeds this evening. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Now on to the task and the continuation of helping to make the South Bank Centre ready for opening. There was more dust to move than Dustin Hoffman and Dusty Springfield in a dustbin with a feather duster on bin day so we set to work with mops, brooms and cloths, while others continued moving more stuff upstairs to clear the main room. But that wasn't all! First there was the warm up act of Tim deftly tinkling the (not) ivories, followed by the party music, which you couldn’t help moving to.

After a fun hour or so we were finished and we tucked into homemade vegan cake and some chocolate muffins brought by the latest member of the 100 club. To accompany this we may or may not have had a drink to celebrate (hic).

Congratulations Shreena 😊

Get no closer, tidy dancer!

Monday 29th June 2020

Written by Shreena Parmar

Alice, Mel, Rich, Sarah, Will and I went back to the SouthBank to help make the place look tidier after some refurbishment work and prepare for it to re-open this weekend.

The SouthBank is a community space which holds dance classes and other events. It is unable to do this at the moment but is has a licenced bar so will be opening its doors to the public and will hopefully recover from a difficult past few months. In the spirit of keeping the dance vibe alive, there were some poses in the dance studio - what do you think? Thanks to Richard for this great pun - I bet you can't read it without singing it! We've got this social distancing thing sussed.

The venue is nearly ready...with just some dusting/wiping down, furniture rearranging and painting to go which is planned for later on this week.

Thanks for all of your hard work tonight and over the last few weeks :)
