This evening we were back helping St Paul's church on Stoke Rd with a gardening task. With a mixed bag of arrival routes to the task location we waited for Neline to arrive and lettuce know what area she wanted us to focus on.
We were really pleased to get a call from Mehdi to say he was coming but knew that Eshan may not arrive today...little did we know!
Neline showed us to the side of the church and asked for the line of beds along the wall to be tidied up and weeds removed. With tools in hand we got to work. It was great to have Joseph back and Helen on an evening task.
The recent rain had been a blessing as the soil was nice and soft and easy to remove the weeds. The whole task didn't take too long at all tonight. We even had extra help from a church goer and a lovely surprise visit at the end from Eshan and Mohammad. They actually stayed on with Mehdi to help with the nettled areas - the untouchables!
Thank you everyone for all your efforts this evening.
Next week it's our 5th birthday! So please do come along to our celebratory task

Tonight was our second visit to St Paul’s Church on Stoke Rd to help them with some ongoing outdoor grounds work… that age old problem called garden weeds.
We had a mixed bag of modes of transport tonight. Kam drove direct to the task, Devajani and Maya walked, Dr and I ran the slightly longer route from our meet up point whilst Pam walked the direct root. None the less we all made it in good thyme!
Whilst Savi, Pam and I were waiting basking in the evening sun we did a quick leg strength exercise. It was more of a dance routine to use at shindigs but we had fun anyway.
As the rest of the team arrived, I told them what we did last time and discussed the meaning of our names whilst we waited for task owner Neline. Homework for next week is to know the meaning of our names… though A* to Devajani and Maya for knowing theirs, even I worked out my name!
Neline soon arrived to give us an overview of the job at hand tonight which involved cutting back shrubbery, weeding the paving slabs and shifting some soil to the bed.
Savi was straight on the shrub task. He had some cutting hedge technology at hand and was quick off the mark in giving it a short back and sides.
The rest of the team were paving the way in uprooting the weeds from the slabs. No easy task! Some of the weeds were so deeply rooted that we had to turnip the sheer force we had just to beet it!
Although we didn’t manage to complete the whole area we did a pretty good job - our good weed for the day done!
Next week we are at Ujala Foundation helping them with their garden.

Tonight we did our first task with St Paul's Church on Stoke Rd. What a stunning church it is and such beautiful grounds. It was great to have Devajani and Anousha join us on their first task with us too.
Peter, Kam, Sut and I met at the start point and walked down the 1km distance to the Church where we met Devajani and Anousha. We were a few minutes early so task owner Nelina was still en-root!
I took this opportunity to go over some safety guidelines and told the team how the task came about. It's great that after nearly 5 years we are still growing our task base and getting new good deeds to do over Slough.
When Nelina arrived she gave us the task low down and we collected the tools from the 'dungeon' and set to work. We then pro-seeded.
May the fork be with you
The ground was pretty tough and quite difficult to dig into with the spades. The fork team did well though. They were well grounded with their choice of tools. Team spades soon decided it was easier to work on the softer ground and turn over that soil. When bush comes to shove, we best remember to collect the right tool next thyme!
With a solid 45 minutes spent digging up the bed we felt like progress had been made but this bed definitely needs a revisit.
Thank you to the whole team tonight in their efforts.
Next week is bank holiday Monday, however we will be out on a task during the day (rather than the evening).
