More cleaning than content - brushing off a change in task

Tuesday 20th February

Written by Natalie (she/her )

We showed Good Gym Ipswich can go with the flow tonight as we arrived prepped to plan social media. But our Task Owner needed a little more hands on help tonight and we were happy to oblige. A quieter night for the gang as Natasha got stuck in creating some info stands whilst I painted a door. We reunited upstairs to clean some windows before we left.

The run went quickly tonight on a crisp but dry evening and we clocked up 5k with Natasha doubling the effort.

A cracker of a festive task...

Tuesday 19th December 2023

Written by Natalie (she/her )

Good Gym Ipswich rounded off 2023 with a task supporting Survivors in Transition painting positive affirmations on pebbles to be gifted to their clients.

Great to see many of the GG gang at this year's final Group Run. The runners tonight were Natasha, Eleanor and Leanne.

A huge thank you to those who have been supportive all year - and to the more recent and equally fabulous additions to the group - who have all helped to reactivate the area, found new task owners, spread the word and offered a helping hand to an array of charities and community groups.

Tonight was a festive affair with Christmas tunes, mince pies and an incredible hat worn by Imogen, creating enough festive cheer to turn any reluctant Christmas participants ... A shout out too to Imogen for the pun and edging towards a tremendous collective 'Race the Distance' milestone.

In addition to pebbles we also wrote affirmations in small gift bags to share with SiT clients. A lot of care and attention was taken both with the writing and the painting as it prompted a contemplative as well as joyful mood.

Looking ahead to 2024, we await the invitation to next year's choir concert Christina and Clara (winky emoji), a row in Felixstowe with Eleanor and catching up speed wise with Natasha and Leanne.

A lovely way to end 2023 so a final Christmas cheer for coming along Eleanor, Natasha, Imogen, Clara, Christina and Leanne

Did somebody say, "just clean"...

Ten points if you get food related pun...

Smashing turn out tonight as we headed off to clean windows. Warm welcome to Hannah and welcome back to Eleanor! Great to see new and familiar faces. Note: I refrained from referring to "old faces!".

Many hands made light work of the window cleaning and we swished through both floors in no time.

Well done everyone!

Masking tape at the ready! One door painted, another one opens..

Wednesday 22nd February 2023

Written by Natalie (she/her )

It was good to be back at Survivors in Transition last night to round off the painting by framing the door and skirting. Now the hallway and one of the meeting rooms all flows together, looking neat and tidy.

Natalie flew solo on this one but under the guidance of Josh, it was a smooth and simple task. Next time to tackle cleaning the windows...?

My friend was entering a competition to paint Star Wars characters. I wished him luck by saying “Grey the force be with you.”

Phew, glad that paint pun is out of the way!

And just like that, Good Gym Ipswich is back!

Tonight 2 runners made their way for the first event of 2023 and Good Gym's relaunch in Ipswich.

The task for this Community Mission was to paint a new stud wall and make it in keeping with the rest of the decor for staff and service users.

As a new AA, it was great to meet fellow GG'er Eleanor who was clearly a pro at 'cutting in'... and maybe I'll give rowing a go? The hour and a bit flew by and we left our hosts with the wall fully painted and determined to spread the word of how we help other organisations and groups in the town.

More Groups Runs and Community Missions coming soon.....

(eyes open next time... :)

Art of Glass......Cleaning

Monday 21st October 2019

Written by Ipswich runner

A very warm welcome to Brittanyon her first Goodgym outing tonight and a big welcome also to Michelle who was visiting family in Ipswich from Goodgym Sheffield.

So it seems like every Monday night it rains.... this was our 4th consecutive week of rain on a Goodgym Group run, but it didn't put off 8 hardy (and slightly damp) souls tonight as we set off for a relatively short run. With the task venue literally only a stone's throw from our meeting point we headed off in the opposite direction to loop back.

Arriving at the Survivors in Transition centre Fiona had all the window cleaning kit ready and the team set off in small groups to polish and shine the interior windows throughout the building.

The centre is deceptively big with a myraid of rooms but it didn't take long for the windows to be gleaming throughout the building.

With the task complete we headed to the floodlit Waterfront as the rain began to subside, for a circuit session of shuttle runs combined with press ups, lunges, squats and steps before a gentle warm down run back to base.

Next week we have a longer run to Castle Hill Community Centre - all the info and sign up is here
