A Berry Good Morning in Battersea 🌿🌞
What better way to kick off the weekend than with a GoodGym community mission that had a huge impact!
A brilliant group of GGers came together on Saturday morning, answering the call to help out at a thriving community garden in the heart of Battersea. This huge green space is a vital hub for local residents—a place to grow, connect, and learn. We're really happy to visit regularly to help keep it flourishing.
It was especially lovely to welcome some first-time GoodGymers—great to meet you Abadesi, Pranav, Adrian and Shreyasi and thanks for getting so stuck in!
There was certainly no shortage of jobs to tackle, and we going straight away. Tasks ranged from planting raspberry canes to clearing an overgrown area, de bind-weeding around a goji bush, and yes—digging not one, not two, but THREE holes to plant a beautiful new bay tree. There was weeding a-plenty, pruning, trimming and composting and a few mystery pipes to contend with, but it was nothing we couldn’t handle.
The energy was high, there was plenty of teamwork strong and even more laughs. It’s always amazing to see how much can get done when a group of motivated people come together. By the end of the morning, the garden was looking better than ever and Malissa was really pleased with all we got done.
We wrapped up the mission in the best possible way—with a trip to a local café for some well-earned tasty drinks and snacks. A perfect reward. Nice work everybody!

It was a bit of an unsteady start for us at the Balance Support day centre, a charity for adults with disabilities, as we couldn’t actually get in to the task! Even after scaling the gate we were foiled by a huge bolt. Just when we were about to give up, a cleaner came to our rescue and gave us access. Wasting no time John, Dylan and Paul got busy pulling nettles, excavating brambles and clearing the walkway so the service users can access the space safely. We were joined by Alice and Janet who quickly got stuck in clearing the area and before long a big difference had been made - well done team!

The brambles and nettles are starting to become a nuisance and it would be great to get these cutback/dug up so that service users can enjoy the garden

Janet Cooper earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Janet completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Janet was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

On a lovely sunny Saturday five goodgymers met to tackle a huge challenge and bag ourselves a workout in the process!
The council have donated hundreds of bags of compost to Doddington community garden. Good news! The not so good news is that they need to be carried up a flight of stairs to the rooftop garden…
We worked hard for an hour shifting countless heavy bags up and down and up and down again- check out the pictures for the result!
Great effort everybody. There are still quite a few (hundred) to go, so watch this space for the next session!
