It was a beautiful, sunny afternoon for a spot of benchmarking; a large scale city-wide project to create a fully updated resource showing the locations of 'age-friendly' benches (i.e. have arms and a back).
We met at Rowntree Park today and our mission was to complete benchmarking for a lot of the city parks which are locked up in the evenings.
Carl was chief map coordinator and everytime we do this task (this is the third one), there's a new work around to make it more efficient and organised.
Simon is a local orienteer and was looking forward to using his navigational skills to do some good. He and John completed the Westbank Park section and not only came back with all the bench data but with map corrections in general!
We'll have a huge evening benchmarking session on the evening of Wednesday 22nd to complete sections in the north of the city, so come and get invovled with the next round.

Penny Gregg earned their community cape by completing their first community mission.
Penny completed a community mission. Instead of watching TV or lying in bed, Penny was out there making their community a better place to be. For making that choice they have earned the community cape.

Yorkshire marathon weekend is always a great weekend on the running calendar and this year was no exception. GG runners who weren't taking part this year were keen to sign up in mass for the opportunity to be part of the 3 mile water station.
With 3 pallets full of bottled water to unload and bottle tops to be flipped open we cracked on in earnest and before long 4 different stations were loaded and ready to. With a few mins to spare before the first runners arrived there was just time to have a quick high intensity workout to prepare ourselves... exercises included eating brownies, biscuits, ginger parkin and Mitch learning to 'Floss.'
'I just like swinging and thrusting' - Mitch
After all the marathon runners had passed there was sufficient time for the tables to be restocked ahead of the 10 mile runners arriving. Ben was taking great pride in the presentation so much so that it seemed a shame to spoil his work of art and hand any bottles out!
Soon after all the runners had passed the evidence that we had ever been there had all gone. Most of us then relocated to various places on the course to spread some GG cheer to all the participants! Well done all!!
