Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Yianny (he / him)
Sometimes the best laid plans can come a cropper. This evening fell into that category for our intrepid Lambeth GGers.
Michael, Tilly, Fi and Yianny met at Papa's for a quick 1.5kms on the way to Swan Mews and we were met by Kymm at the task. Mohah and her sister Zara from the Grantham Road GP Practice were also there to meet us but unfortunately had been given the wrong combination code for the padlock to the gate this was issue number 1.
No matter, we managed to hop over the fence, pass some little wooden benches back over and everyone (even those wearing long skirts!) made it over the railings safely. Nothing like a bit of breaking and entering to get the blood flowing as they say.
Issue number 2 followed quickly after, the padlock key for the tool bin was not in fact the padlock key to the tool bin and so now we had tonnes of mature compost and no tools to shovel into the wheelbarrow and move. Being GoodGymers that wouldn't stop us as we'd made it this far so we scoured the gardens for anything makeshift we could dig and shift the manure with (plastic pots and a BBQ lid did the trick) and we were away.
Given the challenges we were happy to have completely filled one planter and at least the patients can get on with some planting and can slowly move the rest over a period of time.
All that was left was to clamber back out and take our group selfie - not a bad night's work if I do say so myself.
Huge thanks to all and if you are reading this then don't forget we have our end of summer social next week after the Group Run so get signed up!
See you next time :0)
This group creates growing spaces in surgeries and hospitals across Lambeth for plants and vegetables.
