Report written by Jason Kurtis
It was all hands on deck at Unigate Wood as volunteers rolled up their sleeves to branch out and tackle the overgrown brambles. With clippers in hand and plenty of determination, we cut back the thorny invaders, making way for new growth and a more inviting woodland space. Along the way, we uncovered a surprising amount of rubbish—because nothing says “nature walk” like a bit of misplaced plastic! Thankfully, by the end of the session, the woods were looking leafs better.
Of course, no hard work is complete without a well-earned break, and our coffee and biscuit stop gave us the energy to keep going. But the most meaningful moment of the day came when we planted a tree in memory of a beloved member of The Friends of Unigate Wood. A lasting tribute, this tree will stand tall in their honor, ensuring their dedication to the woodland continues to take root for years to come.
With another productive session behind us, we can look back knowing we’ve made a real tree-mendous difference. Until next time, we’ll be logging this as a job well done!
