Five runners ran to deliver roast dinners to older and isolated people on Odd Down

Goodgym Bath has been helping with Roasts on the Road for more than a year now and today it was great to welcome newbies Jane and Meyrick for their first deliveries.

Roast on the Road was born out of lockdown, which meant that a monthly roast dinner at St Philip and St James Church, designed to combat loneliness and isolation, could not go ahead due to coronavirus restrictions.

Organiser, Rev Andy Stammers, and the team had the bright idea of taking the roast on the road - and that's where Goodgym came in, helping bring a hot dinner to people at home across Odd Down through the dark times of Covid.

Ruth was in charge of logistics - ensuring deliveries were equal and pretty much in the same direction - so that the food arrived hot and without needing reheating, unlike some Deliveroos we've heard about!

Last month, there was a risk that the pudding might also melt - it was Viennetta - but this time there was no ice cream in sight, luckily.

Members of the church help out with deliveries further afield - which was good for Tillie, who managed a quick catch up with her mum and dad before heading off on her mission!

With a pause for a group photo, taken by Tillie's dad, David, our red army was deployed in all directions, on its way to feed 20 or so grateful Odd Down residents.

There were fears that one recipient might have moved but she came to the door after all, which put a smile on Mary's face.

And Ruth put a big smile on another woman's face by delivering the Roast on the Road monthly raffle prize - a chocolate cake - alongside her meal.

Smiles all round, in fact!
