It was great to meet up and start our run this evening with some daylight to accompany us, makes such a change! We could actually see each other's faces!
We were lucky enough to have Fredrika join us on her first of hopefully many group runs! Lovely to have you on board, and hope you receive your GoodGym t-shirt in the post soon and can wear it with pride next time! Give her a cheer here!
We also had Neil join on his first group run and it was very fitting as he has created a charity called Rubbish Science. If you're running a race and not sure of what charity to pick, well this could be a good choice.
It was also Dan's last run with us as he heads back to Bath, great to have had you on board. We hope to see you here or there soon! Our longer serving Dan was also back testing his knee and things didn't go to plan with that! Thank you Ashok and Caprice for sticking together and making sure no one was left alone! Dan, deep breath. Take a break if you need to, but we're always here for running but also social stuff!
This evening we teamed up with the Bournemouth Parks team thanks to Sarah, who coordinated a lot of the logistics. We picked Meryck Park as our litter pick area as it was a problem spot. Armed with litter picks, torches black bin liners and recycling bags we split off into team of 4 and made our way along the path and wooded areas.
There were some hotspot areas where there were a lot of cans and needles unfortunately and it became clear why the Parks team had suggested it to us. It's a shame as most of Meryck Park is a lovely place, where a lot of us run around. There is a playing field in the middle, and even at night with floodlights there are hoards of rugby teams practicing....less than a hundred meters away in the bushes other are entertaining themselves with drug use and littering...
In our teams of 4 we managed to gather a lot of rubbish and then it was very satisfying to see Will come and collect it all and take it away. We managed to get in some laps and top up our running before heading back to Flirt. 5km in total and we didn't even notice it.
Next week we are doing a flyer drop for the lovely Abi (please look after your ankle and rest up!) and the week after that we are heading to the Foodbank in Boscombe.
Well done everyone....the gloves are in the wash as we speak!
