Six GoodGym volunteers gathered on a grey day for our first visit to Stargarallot of 2022.

Michael, Lydia and Sean were joined by some new faces...

Welcome to Anna on her first mission in Cardiff. Welcome to Alastair and Matt, each on their maiden GoodGym mission. Hopefully the first of many more to come!

Camilla showed us an area of the allotment consisting of water butts, plant beds an a greenhouse. She explained that this area of land was to be repurposed as a polytunnel. Our task was to begin clearing the way for it.

We began by creating a new home for the water butts alongside the storage sheds: We cleared away wood and slate in order to lay down some paving slabs, before moving the water butts into position atop the slabs.

We then got to work on the beds. Starting with the brick borders, we shuttled back and forth until we had stacked them all away. Next, we uprooted the plants from their bed and repotted them.

Finally, we turned or attention to the greenhouses. We emptied the still-standing greenhouse of its contents. Where once a greenhouse had once stood, we deconstructed the metal base frame, and dug up the support chord anchors from the ground.

By the time we had done all that, it was time to pack up the tools and finish with some tea and fruit.
