Find out about GoodGym TaskForce
Report written by Natasha Slee
Tidying up someone's garden may seem like a simple task, but it can bring wonderful mental health benefits to those who turn to GoodGym for help. On Sunday afternoon, Amy and myself met at Mrs E's house ready to tackle an overgrown lawn and tidy up the shrubs so Mrs E could enjoy looking out at her garden. Mrs E is isolated and has received a palliative diagnosis, so these small changes will give her comfort in the time she has left. Amy immediately got to work tackling the lawn with Mrs E's lawnmower. Though a temperamental machine, Amy never gave up and it was amazing what a difference a cut lawn made. Amy even tackled a well-established bramble with Mrs E's shears without any hesitation! In the meantime, I cleared the weeds from Mrs E's patio, removed bindweed from her shrubs and bushes, and generally tidied up the space. By mid-afternoon we had filled eight garden sacks with cuttings, weeds, bramble and debris and Mrs E had a tidier garden to enjoy in the autumn sunshine.
