This week we were back off to help SENSATIONAL SIMON - Sustrans Volunteer Co-ordinator with the upkeep of a section of the National Cycle Network (NCN).
With the walking group setting off at 6:30, the rest of us set off at just after 6:45 in two groups.
On arrival we met with Simon and the walkers. On initial inspections Simon mentioned he thought the section wasn't looking as bad as it had been before, but there was still improvements to be made so we got stuck straight in. The first group of runners to arrive, joined to walkers in grabbing litter pickers and getting straight to work collecting litter from the entrance to the section of the network.
The second group of runners arrived ably guided by Steve and Kim and came straight to Simon's van for a brief of tasks which this time around involved mainly edging and sweeping to widen the path, stopping the greenery encroaching onto the path and making it smaller and more slippery for the users.
Everyone got straight to it with Rob providing some suitable Dad like jokes, that he might need to brush up on, but we'll sweep that under the carpet for now...
It was a beautiful night, with the sky looking particularly dramatic and atmospheric. Once a good 45mins had past, we popped tools back into Simon's vehicle, heard his heartfelt thanks and headed back as a oner downhill back toward base.
On the way home we made use of the street furniture and threw in some stair sets and frog jumps!
Finding a place for shelter we stretched off as the rain came down and hears the latest news past and future.
On arrival at the Showroom Cinema we were greeted by Sheffield Adventure Film Festival's (SHAFF) own Matt Heason who kindly offered us free tickets to see the best of SHAFF 2018 which was screening at 8:30 just after we got back. It's a great festival and one we have a run in the program for, so please do make it along this year if you can. It's at the Showroom Cinema 22nd to 24th March.
Until next time, happy running! :)
