It was great to join Liam for his first GG mission and we met at Ms B's after he had hotfooted over from the Bristol group run this morning, clocking up some impressive miles in the process.

On arrival, Ms B and her friend asked if we could have a go at mowing and strimming the lawn which, despite being a bit damp, was dry enough to give this a go.

We found an ancient, non-powered, mower in Ms B's storage cupboard, but we quickly realised this would take about three weeks to cut the grass after Liam had tried to move it up the garden.

There was a very slightly newer electric mover in the cupboard, so I set about cutting one side of the front lawn, whilst Liam got busy with a strimmer on the other side. Very quickly, however, the mower started smoking so we gave up on that and Liam managed to do both sides with the strimmer before heading round to the back to start there.

In the meantime, I employed a three-weaponed attack on some weeds and brambles, employing the use of a little gardening fork, secateurs and shears, to tidy up some of the area around the front and side of the garden.

Without an extension lead, Liam found that he could only tackle around one third of the back garden, but it's already looking a lot tidier.

Ms B very kindly rewarded us with some tea and cake and enjoyed a natter with us about some of the clubs that she attends in the local area and what the area was like during the second world war and how she had lived in the same house all of her life - a lovely end to our mission.

It would be great to go back and do a bit more at some point.
