Christmas For CAMHS
Christmas For CAMHS is a registered charity who provides special Christmas gifts every year for children and young people who are inpatients in child and adolescent mental health (CAMHS) wards across the UK over the Christmas holiday period. We want to make children and young people who are inpatients over the festive season feel thought-about, special and included - our individual gifts for each young person to keep, as well as gifts for their ward, help us to do this.

During Christmas 2023, inspired by two CAMHS volunteer elves, Christmas for CAHMS ran a paper chain making project. It went down so well in CAMHS units (CAMHS stands for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) that they’re going to do it again in 2024, and this time we're getting involved!

The paper chains are a team effort - they will be started by members of the public (like us), and then the young people will connect them together when they arrive in the CAMHS units. Each paper chain will have a cheesy cracker joke written on the inside to add an extra bit of fun during assembly.

Items to bring which would help this task run smoothly: Next Wednesday ⬆️ * if you have any wrapping paper scraps you can bring along it would be very helpful, and would also make our paperchains more varied.
* Other helpful items; scissors, a biro if you have either to hand. We have some but not enough for everyone.

Paper chains, as well as being an awesome decoration that are suitable for most CAMHS units, symbolise connectedness. For young people in CAMHS units it’s really important to feel connected to the outside world and to not feel forgotten. Making these special paper chains, which will be a team effort between the community and the young people on CAMHS wards, is a real opportunity to provide a tangible reminder of that we are all still connected despite everything.

Approved cracker jokes are here.

Full instructions are here if you want to make a few at home.

Meeting locations: Please meet outside County Hall at 6pm. We will craft paperchains for an hour then there will be an optional 30 minute run afterwards.
