We are helping the fantastic community group of The Wildlife Gardeners of Haggerston to create Loggeries along the River Lea river bank

These loggeries provide a refuge for small mammals, grass snakes and toads on Hackney Marshes. They have already seen a positive impact on wood mice on the Marshes and we will be commissioning a small mammal survey in the summer to understand with greater certainty what is needed to provide the best habitat for wildlife.

The loggeries involve driving in stakes, digging a hollow for small mammals, constructing a heavy hibernaculum from logs, covering this in woodchip and then wrapping in stock-proof fencing wire - multiple jobs for people to experience.

Meeting Gideon by the Hackney Marshes pavilion who will have all the materials needed to build the Loggery on the day.
