A freshly minted garden
3 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Hackney.
- Sunday, 11th of June 2017
Three GGers met up in Hackney today to reclaim Mrs R's garden from weeds.
We met outside at 11 and, having navigated the very confusing signage at this very large block of flats, were welcomed into Mrs R's home. Her outside space had been overwhelmed by weeds meaning that she can't use it at all.
We set to work clearing right away. Lee-Ann had handily brought some clippers, which made light work of the taller plants, while John and I were grateful for our gloves as we tackled some spiky weeds. The only thing Mrs R wanted left behind was the impressive amount of mint that she said she uses for cooking and tea!
We disturbed lots of bugs (the garden had not been touched for some time) which had the bright side of attracting some inquisitive little birds who clearly fancied an early lunch.
After an hour's effort we had cleared most of the weeds and the garden was looking considerably tidier. Mrs R insisted that we take some sprigs of mint home with us and who were we to refuse?! (she insisted that it's organic and fresh). Another mission success!
