Burgess Park Fun(nel) Run
2 GoodGymers made their way to help their local community in Haringey.
- Saturday, 11th of January 2020
- Led by Latoya Stephens
After inexplicably turning my alarm off in the morning I made it to Burgess Park JUST in time and met Shona – rep-ping both GoodGym AND Park Run (Shona is a regular Run Director – go Shona!). What a week to have picked – a record breaking 872 runners came to Burgess Park Run this week. We set up a funnel at the start to help people get past the start to the back/middle of the runner and to protect the flowerbeds from being trampled – a great way to practice my polite assertive skills. The runners soon set off and we volunteers moved on to the finish area, getting it ready for the first runners to finish. With foresight of troubles to come and a stroke of genius Park Run’s Dan, Andrew and Chris set up a double funnel – or in the words of another volunteer ‘the most epic park run funnel I have ever seen’. This helped manage the crowd as more and more people finished at the same time.
