Decluttering by the book
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Islington.
- Sunday, 19th of July 2020
This mission was all about making Mr A's flat safer for him by donating some of the many books that he has to charity, freeing up some more space for him to feel more comfortable and safe in his own home.
We were met at the door by Mr A who already had a couple of bags of books waiting for us which wouldn't have taxed us too much, particularly as we had both shown up replete with book transporting receptacles in the form of backpacks and spare bags. Fortunately Jen kindly volunteered to accompany Mr A up the to help sift through some more books to fill our bags.
After a couple of swift trips up and down the stairs to his flat she'd filled our backpacks with an assortment of books, and we sauntered over to Highbury to hopefully drop them off at a charity shop by the station. As we approached it became apparent that the shop was a lot less open than we would have liked. Undeterred we went with the recommendation of trying Oxfam Books in Angel which according to the internet was open.
Alas it was equally shut, and with waning optimism for finding an open charity shop on a Sunday, we settled on going our separate ways with the books we had on us to drop them off at our respective local charity shops this week.

Good work both! Sorry the shop was shut but good work hauling those books and taking them to your locals!
Great report, thanks Leo!
