Another balmy night, as England took on Colombia we took on the huge problem of plastic pollution on Brighton beach.
Our planned task was postponed as The Bevy decided that the pub would just be too busy with the England game but we will be going there in a few weeks to dig up their potatoes. Unfortunately it does mean I won’t be able to use my “Goaaaaallll!”said the common-tater, “Result!!!” said the spec-tater pun but never mind!
Back to tonight, 11 (a football team’s worth!) Brighton Goodgymmers braved the sweltering temperatures and headed to the beach between the piers to wage war on the huge litter problem. We picked up plastic cups, plastic straws, plastic forks, plastic bags, the plastic things that hold a 4 pack together, plastic food wrapping, wet wipes, fag butts, abandoned clothing, fag packets and so much more. I reckon about 20 bags full of rubbish in about half an hour. I’m sure you are all aware of the huge issue of marine plastic pollution so its fantastic that we have done a little bit to save the fishes and keep our beach looking clean and tidy.
We ended our litter pick at Hove Lawns with a quick game of rounders. 3 hits each, some great fielding and a nail biting results which I’ve forgotten already!
A quick stretch and then rush home to witness a result I’m sure I won’t forget for a long time! Yes England did just win a penalty shoot out, but more importantly I didn’t have to think of another pun!!
