I see a bad spoon a-risin
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Southwark.
- Saturday, 16th of March 2019
Today, Frances and Dom ran to help move some furniture for Mr T so that his dear friend Mrs I will be step closer to coming home from hospital.
I enjoyed a short run over One Tree Hill, but massive kudos to Frances who had already done a parkrun, a community mission, and had another mission lined up after this one!
I was relieved to see there wasn't huge items to be lifted this time, only a few bits needed moving - a rug (a glorious union jack, picked by Mr T due to his time in the forces), an armchair, a cabinet - but as Mr T wasn't able to shift these by himself he really appreciated our help. We actually managed those bits within five or ten minutes, but as the rug had been glued down, there was some sticky strips of glue clinging stubbornly to the carpet.
This led to my favourite time on a mission in a while; Frances and I sitting and scraping off as much of the glue as we could, while Mr T told us some wonderful stories. He asked about GoodGym, and asked why we personally do these tasks. It was the first time in a while that somebody we've helped has prompted me to think so directly about why we do what we do, and I'm very grateful to him for this motivation.
We gave our answers, and Mr T told us a lovely story about a time he went the extra mile himself when supporting younger people in his past. We really enjoyed his stories - some not for the faint hearted, one including a royal - and he showed us his prized spoon collection.
Apologies to spoon fans out there, I forgot to capture his ones, so the ones in the picture are just random spoons of the internet
We eventually moved on, glad we'd helped get Mrs I one step closer to coming home and hopefully provided Mr T with some relief during a busy time.

For those that like spoons, I highly recommend the Coronation spoon at the tower of London 👍
Very good spoon picture. I enjoyed the spoons.
