I would clear 500 weeds and I would clear 500 more, just to be the one who leaves 1000 weeds for the council at your door.
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Hackney.
- Sunday, 14th of July 2019
Anne and Rebecca rejoined forces this morning to tackle Mr and Mrs M's overgrown front garden.
Gardening used to be a joint pastime for Mr and Mrs M. Sadly illness has prevented Mr M from his hobby and has meant Mrs M focuses her time caring for her husband. With no one to hinder their growth weeds have caused chaos in the couples front lawn, rendering it unusable.
Thankfully Anne and Rebecca were there to fight back. The pair started by pulling up weeds that were spilling out onto the street, allowing a safer and clear pavement for all. Then Rebecca took to the weeds inside the fence whilst Anne dug deep to uproot unwanted plants.
As they cleared they found fallen branches, nettles galore and oh so many hidden thorns. Each layer of overgrowth cleared unearthed another but after a solid two hours the soil beneath began to emerge.
With lunch beckoning Anne and Rebecca bagged up the fallen weeds. They managed to fill not only the garden waste bin and bag but four bin bags as well. In such a short time they made the garden more manageable with plenty of space for the remaining plants to breathe.
