Last Tuesday night 24 daring and dedicated runners met at Vivo Health Club to go running and do a lot of good! You may think that getting to 50 runs would be El-ementary but it takes one 'el of an effort and commitment, so the title of this run (as suggested by Dave Guest) is dedicated to El Walker as this was her 50th run! W-el done El! Also a very big welcome to Lauren, Erin and Jack who were on their first GoodGym outing. I hope you had a great time.
We had a teeny tiny run to Quakers Garden where our repeated visits to the new Incredible Edible garden are starting to make a huge difference to the once abandoned and forlorn place. As there was quite a large group with a small amount of tools, we split in to two groups. Group one went for a dockside run with Chris and group two stayed to begin another shrubbery massacre.
After about half an hour, group one returned to continue the vegetative destruction and group two dashed off to get those running muscles working.
One thing hit home very quickly - it's getting dark sooner and sooner and so head torches came out, mobile phones became light sources, and a lot more care had to be taken with sharp tools and stumps all around, but we survived with all limbs intact and by the end had practically finished clearing not only the flower bed but also removed a heck of a lot if ivy from walls and trees.
Once all were back in the garden we headed in to Queen Square for a lovely stretch under the leafy canopy, and a few little reminders for forthcoming runs. Most importantly, BRING A TORCH!
