In a brief moment of mattress
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Southwark.
- Thursday, 14th of November 2019
This evening I popped along to Southwark with Issy for a quick post-work mission for Mr W.
Mr W is currently in hospital after having had a fall last week. He needs a hospital bed installed in order to be released home, which means that some space needs to be made for it. GoodGym were asked if we could help with this.
Despite being terrible with faces, I was able to deduce which darkened figure in the street was Issy from her hyper-bright jacket (I assume all GoodGymmers have a penchant for reflective jackets). After duly greeting each other, we introduced ourselves to Mr W's wife (whom I'll imaginatively call Mrs W) and got to work.
The space invader to be evicted today was a single divan bed, including a base, mattress and headboard. There's not really too much to say about this, as everything was light and easy to carry outside to the bins (breezy was shut outside as a result of the inclement weather). In fact, Issy said that this was probably her lightest (& fastest!) furniture moving mission to date 😎
Mrs W was duly impressed by our speed and smiles and told us what a relief it was that everything was now ready for her to arrange delivery of a hospital bed. I'm pretty sure she said something along the lines of "I've been married to Mr W for over 50 years, and I've missed nagging him this last week" (or maybe she enjoyed the break from nagging - I'm a little fuzzy on this point). Regardless, I hope she's able to start nagging at Mr W soon 😉
It was fun working with you, Issy: congratulations on your recent 200 good deeds and hopefully see you again soon! 😄🎉
