With a week off work meaning lots of free time (and only so much baking I can do before I run out of flour!), an add in the local neighborhood newsletter offered a perfect solution - North Bristol Foodbank need volunteers to help with sorting donations and packing up food parcels. Their demand has increased massively with the coronavirus outbreak (apparently requests for food were up by 400 percent last week!). Getting a volunteer slot turned out to be nearly as difficult as getting Glastonbury tickets, as they can only take a limited number of volunteers for each two-hour slot to ensure social distancing can be maintained, but managed to grab a couple slots this week. I arrived at the foodbank's Tuesday location after a lovely 2 mile (uphill) walk in the sunshine, where I met the other two volunteers on my shift and we were quickly put to work. My task was to make up 'single person' food parcels (including some Easter egg treats), and the two hours absolutely flew by. I didn't count my finished boxes but I think I did at least a dozen, so not a bad afternoon's work! Looking forward to going back again later this week, and tackling some more of those tins! (Sorry I didn't take any photos but here's an Easter-themed one of an Easter bunny wearing my GoodGym t-shirt)
