Nailed It! 24 runners, 5 new starters and 8 brave soul’s fresh from the Hackney Half Marathon on Sunday; Team Hackney was on fine form on Tuesday night. With a busy agenda, and such a big team we split into two task groups – one tackling Homerton Grove Adventure Playground with a 3 mile round trip, and the other Wilton Estate with a two miler.
Adventures in Homerton Not quite wonderland, but pretty damn cool, Homerton Grove has a giant wooden adventure playground with a few extra gears: among the climbing frames, tree houses, swings and rope, a London Taxi is lodged in its centre. Unfortunately our task tonight was not taxi shifting– although they do want us to ‘lift’ the taxi at some point but that’s been saved for another day. But there was plenty to go around. Sawing wood, hammering, raking, sweeping, shifting sand across to the sand pit, building a wood hut – they even let us loose with a nail gun (which got two of our runners a little bit too overexcited). After we nailed the task, there was even time for a quick jaunt over the climbing frame before heading back to base.
Lapping it up. With the beautiful day, and only a short run to Wilton Estate where we continued to sprinkle woodchip, weed, plant pretty things and get our fingers nice and green we celebrated the arrival of summer with a few laps of the lovely London Fields Park – chasing the tail, for those had a final burst of energy (and being the tail for those that didn’t). A quick yoga stretch, a few downwards dogs, and then a sprint finish to the pub – nice!
