Gill was on food collection duty for Foodcycle with her husband Tim and as they drove to the first pick up they were making guesses about what produce would be donates from today's supermarket surplus! But what a shock to find that Sainsbury's, who usually provide a generous donation had nothing to offer today due to staffing shortages. Rather deflated knowing that the cooking team might be catering for 40 guests, they drive hopefully on to the second pick up. Unfortunately Aldi had less than half a trolley and most of it was strawberries and sunflowers, and Gill guessed that even the most creative of chef's on Masterchef might struggle to turn this into an appetising evening meal. The third pick yo was at Asda and again not much to offer so in the end, not wanting to disappoint the team at the kitchen they decided to buy some veg as a donation. The next challenge was navigating through the school run traffic, but they eventually delivered the produce to a very appreciative tram at Hightown Baptist church who were poised and ready to create a hot meal for anyone local in need of food and company. Here's hoping it was a success.
