Power Play
14 GoodGymers made their way 5.0km to help their local community in Hackney.
- Tuesday, 9th of February 2016
14 of Hackney's finest GoodGymers ran 5k or 6k to St Luke's Chirch to Power sand, clean, construct, and set up an epic soft play scene.
Great to have a few new faces to join the ever rampaging Team Hackney!! Also lovely to see a few returning faces come to check out the spectacular Tuesday night action through the streets of H-Town. And maybe most pleasing of all is having our ever more regular regulars in the house throwing down some ever improving fitness action!!πͺπ»πͺπ½πͺπΎ.
We started with a progressive dynamic warm up to get the blood flowing then swiftly into a new phase of our training Strength. We worked on our squatting, lunging and calf raising techniques before we powered through a series of body sculpting, leg burning side squats, walking lunges with a active recovery of calf raises. The cherry ππ on top after that was the high and long skipping just to make sure the legs would remember me in the morning.
A nippy 2.2k run up mare street racing a few school kids along the way saw us arrive at our task for the evening, the very warm St Luke's Church. Meeting the lovely Keli who had a series of jobs for us. We split into 4 groups, and got cracking!! While the power sander was being wielded by Kev with the more delicate work being taken up by first timer Liv and GoodGym GoodDeed machine Andy. The dust was flying and the walls were as smooth as a babies bum! The flat pack crew were the multitalented Cecilia and our second first timer Matt. Working as a well oiled unit the furniture was coming together in no time! The rest of the crew were cleaning, chair configuring and Soft Play creating. To make the amazing St Luke's Soft play a reality. After 35 industrious minutes Team Hackney had worked our magic to produce 6 smooth walls, 1 set of draws, 2 storage baskets, 1 Epic Soft play scene, and a super sparkly clean St Luke's Church ππΌππ½ππ»ππΎ.
As a thank you Keli opened up the door to the monster tower block next door for us to get a little circuit training on. We spent an intense 6 minutes of continuous muscle pumping work storming up Stairs, Walking Lunging, press upping and squatting πͺπ»πͺπΎπͺπ½.
We split into the well know Speedy and Sexy groups for the big race back to base. The Sexy group showing an amazing improvement in fitness running powerfully for 3.3k even throwing in a few rotations of Indian file to up the tempo along the way. But this week Speedy crew rules! Lead home by Kev the Speedies tracked us down just before the last corner showing great form in their 4K run back to base.
A stretch out and a little food treat from the E5 Bakehouse rounded off a great evening, really hope to see you all again next week for a brand new task working on the Gascoyne Estate community garden, please sign up here. I have a few but if you have one please bring along a head torch π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦
Matt is organising a 5k/10k in Viccy Park on the 19th of March to help raise funds for brilliant work done by Bootsrap. All the race details can be found here. Be great if we could get a group together running this race to support a great local social enterprise. Let me know if you are up for running it!!!
Until next time
Powerfully Smooth

Nice one Joel, the detailed report writing shows no sign of letting up! Do you make notes or just have a mega-memory? Sorry I can't break virgin ground on Gascoyne Estate next week, see you all in a fortnight.
