Roots Manoeuvre
12 GoodGymers made their way 4.0km to help their local community in Hackney.
- Tuesday, 28th of April 2015
Inspired by all the amazing runners in the marathon last weekend (well done!) we started as we meant to go on this week, playing the 'name and numbers game' from plank position rather than our usual standing. Three of the group then set off to complete this week's mission: tackling a garden space that needs some serious good gym attention.
"Not even the Spanish bluebells were to be spared!"
After last week's slight detour (oops!) the rest of us decided that Ivo could be in charge of getting us all to the task location this time. Luckily it was in the nearby Wilton Estate so not too much navigation involved! There we met the lovely Lisa, Debbie and Clare who supplied us with spades and forks and pointed us in the direction of a large planting bed that needed digging up. All roots and weeds were to be removed. Not even the Spanish bluebells were to be spared!
"the epic battle"
It soon became clear that we were dealing with a formidable foe in the form of a large Ivy plant that someone in the group affectionately named 'Medusa'. The team soon got to the root of the problem (ahem) and managed to dig up most of the buried section of this beast of a plant, sending a few unfortunate woodlice scuttling away in their wake! After the epic battle Ivo challenged us further with timed pace-training laps around London fields before we headed back, feeling nicely tired out, to do our final stretches.
