Announce it
After reaching St.Joseph's Hospice at Hackney, I asked the two volunteers(they will be back to the story shortly) who I first spotted where I can find Becca. They had no clue who that person was as. I later came to know that it was their first time volunteering here as well. So I started asking other volunteers who were busy folding down the tables, and they said Becca was at Streatham today. I explained that I'm from GoodGym and one of them remembered that GoodGym Hackney helped them with the sale the previous time.
Fold it
The charity sale was finished and GoodGym's mission was to help them wrap up the things. Ian, a volunteer at St.Joseph's Hospice, guided me on what the tasks were for today. We had to fold the tables and put them in a table trolley. It sounded simple but all the tables had different mechanisms for folding. An older gentleman patiently explained that process to me.
Recycle it
There were a lot of unsold clothes/rags, toys, and cutlery that needed to be separated and put in a big trolley. This would be purchased in bulk by a recycling organization said Ian.
Transport it
Ian then explained that the other packed items needs to be moved into an underground storage which is inside a car parking space. The entrance was a bit steep, so we needed to be careful moving the trolley's around. Milly and Christian, who were the volunteers I met initially, joined us in moving them to the storage. When we were taking them out of the trolley, I noticed they were full of very old cassettes, cd's, and vinyl records.
Fold it - Take 2
Ian said, the tent is the last bit that needs to be put back in the storage. Milly and I took another set of packed items to the storage area and came back to the entrance and found nobody. It was too quiet on a sunny afternoon. Christian and Ian went off to dump the garbage. Milly and I decided to take down the tent by ourselves and were figuring out how to do it. Soon Ian and others came and joined us in folding the tent. Once done Ian said, the work is done, and we all went our separate ways.
