Shopping for Mrs J
1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Swindon.
- Wednesday, 20th of May 2020
I phoned Mrs J as usual on Tuesday afternoon to get her list, and again Wednesday morning just to reassure her and catch any last minute additions. We had a nice chat and she seems to be coping well with the overall situation, although she tells me that she would so much love to see her grandchildren .... especially the new baby that she is still to meet but as they live in London that's not going to happen for a while. Sainsburys was unusually crowded today. The queue was well behaved and muffled greetings were exchanged from beneath surgical masks.... Seems surreal at times but its funny how quickly the bizarre becomes the norm. I’ve learned the store layout and the shop went much quicker than normal. The drama came with Taste the Difference dog food (thanks all the same, I’ll take your word for it) as they had run out. I checked out and made my way over to Mrs J’s for the delivery and gave her the bad news that the dog food was not to be had. But I did promise to look in Sainsbury's on the other side of town the next day when I did my Dad’s shopping. We chatted again for a while and she and I both enjoyed the conversation. I dropped the dog food by the next day, Taste the Difference, as apparently her little beast won’t have any other. The chore, the task, the mission, has now become a pleasant routine. Till next week....
