Just a week away from the shortest day of the year, the annual Sikhs in the City Dawn to Dusk was on December 15th. The event was held by volunteers and was to raise funds for a clubhouse in the name of the oldest marathon runner, Fauja Singh BEM.
It was the biggest showing for GoodGym. We had a mixture of race distances too. Each lap is officially measured at 2.014k and is registered as the Fauja Singh Training Course. It was a diverse crowd with including visually impaired runners, a runner with a dog, and 108-year-old Fauja Singh to start the race himself! There was great food at the feeding station with drinks, chocolates, fruit, tea/coffee, samosas and onion bhajis (donated by Gurdwara Karamsar Ilford) - and a hot meal for finishers too.
For those running from Dawn to Dusk, this meant starting at 8:04 to 15:54. We had our GoodGym's Islington trainer Simon Fitzmaurice completing a whopping 36 laps covering 72.5km (coming in 5th place too)!
Massive congratulations to Dave Mansfield for completing not only his first marathon, but going even further to complete an Ultra Marathon of 50.35km (25 laps) - incredible! Another big congratulations to Latoya Stephens who completed her first half marathon. She gave new meaning to her famous #latoyalaps. Enjoy the shiny new badges on your profiles!
Here are our amazing podium finishers:
1st place for Women's 22K - Hilary Wood
3rd place for Men's 22K - Rob Riley
In typical GoodGym fashion, we had our own cheering squad in the form of Rita and Eugene. Thank you for your support (and Rita for taking photos).
Check out the results here.
Hope to see you here next year!
