Both Gill and Martin were on duty on the cooking team at Foodcycle tonight, and what a plenteous supply of ingredients they had to choose from. Putting their heads together with Jordi the FoodCycle Project Lead and Rob a relative newbie, they and soon come up with a winter warming menu.
Martin got started on the most delicious soup using up tender stem broccoli, onions, potatoes and some rather delicious blue cheese. He even got all cheffy and made a cheese crumb to sprinkle on the top. Jordi and Rob were on main course and made a delcious veggie sausage and bacon casserole with a three root mash and roasted sprouts and vegetables on the side. And of course, Gill was put on pudding duty. As there was an abundance of hot cross buns she decided on a variation of bread and butter pudding; adding a layer of pulped strawberries and scattered chopped pear between the two main layers. Whisking up eggs sugar and milk this was soon soaking into the pud and the whole thing (well three in fact) was baked to create a comfort food dessert.
The guests seemed delighted with today's menu and there was even plenty for them to take away too.
Looking forward to next week and keeping fingers crossed that the donated food is as plentiful as it was tonight.
