You cannot go far in Brighton without getting involved in a Real Junk Food Project. The Gardener, run by Murray, is a pay how you feel cafe where those of us who can afford to, pay forward a meal, meaning someone who can't feed themselves may have the chance of a hot meal. The team at The Gardener specialise in vegetarian and vegan dishes made from supermarket surplus collected by the Real Junk Food Project team. Check them out for all the other amazing work they do across the city here.
Tonight, twelve (12!) of us ran to The Gardener to help clean, disinfectant, scrub, hoover and sweep up the four floors of the cafe. A team had the joy of bleaching the walk in fridge which had decided to give up at the weekend leaving s bit of a smell(!) With the rest of the kitchen being a hive of activity cleaning down all surfaces and having to drag Pippa and Rosie away as they got serious mopping the floor!
Frannie and Juliet got stuck into the grills, while Michelle and Michael cleaned down all and every surface. At some point Amro took on the hoover AND sweeping brush... Tables were stacked and a general sense of order returned, we set off to do some fitness seeing as our run to the task was short and sweet!
Our fitness session was a mixture of running and strength circuits; squats, lunges, jumping jacks, skaters, and dead bugs, followed up with some well needed stretching!
