I'm glovin it!

Tuesday 23rd January

Written by Laura Denham

A fantastic squad of 10 GoodGymers gathered for this evening session to continue our litter picking from where we left off last week - Thankfully we were able to feel our fingers and toes this time! We were joined by Jack from the Central team - great to meet you Jack :) and Allan who we've been missing on our Tuesday sessions.

We split into 2 groups to cover both sides of the road and attacked the paths armed with bags, bag hops and litter pickers, the teams bagged and binned up any rubbish on the paths and sides of the road. It wasn't actually as bad as expected so competition was rife with us fighting over the rubbish - ha! Our most interesting finds were some 2 gloves but not a pair, so annoying when you loose 1 glove, an amusing small placed sponge in a huge puddle, but the rest were the usual haul of cans, bottles, chicken shop wrappers and wet tissue! After half an hour we bagged up our findings, left them near the nearest bins and made our way to the local library to regroup.

We ran back towards Coventry Boys and Girls club with a quick stop for a fitness session in Starley Gardens. Taking it in turns to run around the maze whilst giving the rest of the group an exercise to complete. It was fun and everyone put in lots of effort.

Well done everyone, we've left Ball Hill a litter bit tidier than we found it :)

Absolutely rubbish

Tuesday 16th January

Woo hoo! What a turn out, 12 GoodGymers for our first litter pick of 2024, undeterred by the chilly temperatures 🥶

Tonight we were joined by 3 newcomers, Abbie Natasha and Megan. it was lovely to meet you and well done on your first good deed!

James led the group of walkers who set off while the rest of us warmed up for our run. Armed with hoops, litter pickers and binbags we made our way to the litter picking destination, starting at Gosford Park.

The crew made their way across the fields picking up any bits of litter but from what we could see, with it being poorly lit, it was surprisingly clean.

Deciding our efforts could be put to better use elsewhere we headed to Walsgrave Road and found a few dumping hotspots. The only time you are happy to see litter is when you are on a litter pick! We made sure these patches were spic and span before heading back to base. A few people stopped to thank us tonight too which was lovely, good to know people appreciate what we do.

In total we managed to collect about 4 large bin bags full of trash which is brilliant and according to strava we covered around 3 miles. Great work everyone! hope you've all warmed up at home and can feel your fingers again now

Catch you next week 👋

Squeak-y Clean

Tuesday 7th February 2023

Written by Laura Denham

3 GoodGymers braved the cold and ran to Cheylesmore to go litter picking.

We covered the shops on Daventry Road and Quinton Park and around the outskirts of Quinton Pools. It was actually all looking rather clean apart from the endless amount of cigarette butts and we met a friendly little mouse along the way too! 🐭

After around 40 minutes of picking and with our fingers feeling like they were about to drop off, we headed back to base.

Good work everyone keeping Cov tidy ⭐
