Apple Harvest Day is one of the biggest events in the social calendar of Stanmer Park, organised and run by volunteers from the Brighton Permaculture Trust (https://brightonpermaculture.org.uk). This year, as many before it, fresh apple juice, properly scrumped cider and a fruit crumble ‘extravaganza’ were dished out to the autumnal hoards. All to a soundtrack of live bands, while storytellers held the younger punters in rapt attention in the magical orchard space.
The evening sun shone, as GoodGym assisted in the clean-up and pack down following the main event. Ben, Carla, Caroline (honorary GoodGym member), Doug and Tabi shifted juice, lifted and packed crates, scrubbed and power washed all the apple pressing kit and generally helped the team get things back in order ready for more autumnal apple goodness to come.
On the same day, Michelle, Nicky and (I think) Frannie run a 10K for Rise and Carla, Sarah, Pippa and Mike did a trail run on Devils Dike.
A special thought goes to Joel who could not make this community mission.

What a GoodGym – Blitz was this Saturday!
Bevendean Down parkrun, Stanmer trail run, apple juicing action with Brighton Permaculture Trust, BioBlitz, an impromptu hang out with Brighton & Hove Archaeological Society and tour of Bronze Age excavation. Carla proposed a multi-part adventure to finish off September in style, and so we did by joining who one who all the parts of this amazing day!
In GoodGym style, we run our local parkrun and continued trail running to Stanmer park – our chosen location for the EuroBioBlitz 2023 Challenge on 30th September, a chance for anyone and everyone to contribute to the study of Europe’s wildlife, helping to support scientific research on natural conservation by recording local wildlife.
On the same day we also helped Brighton Permaculture Trust, a charity that promotes greener lifestyles and sustainable development through permaculture design processes and principles in their projects, including the management of orchards and scrumping of fruit that would be not otherwise picked and used for good.
We scrumped 180kg of apples to produce 100 litres of apple juice, that will be served at Apple Harvest Day next Sunday. We will be there again too – Join us HERE
