Parked up

Tuesday 3rd May 2022

Written by Celtic Murray

We had an impressive turnout for this task with 12 people attending. We welcomed newcomer Sarah. We hope to see you again soon Sarah!

Having met at the Park, we then embarked on a fitness running task and it was great to see everybody getting involved.

The task was coming to the rescue of trees that were in desperate need of assistance due to being dehydrated. The secretary of Friends of Memorial Park, Sue, was on hand and gave us some gardening/tree tips!

We dug holes around the trees to assist with their hydration when it rains and the rain began very slightly as we were leaving.

Fair Play for clearing the park

Sunday 2nd May 2021

Written by Deb

Four runners made their way to memorial park for a litter pick with The Friends of Memorial Park. Fortunately there wasn't too much this morning. There was a fair in the park, and the organisers make sure that area is free from litter. it was a beautiful morning to be out in the park and we got lots of appreciative comments from members of the public

Pickers at dawn

Sunday 6th December 2020

Written by Graeme Papa Strumpf Mulvaney

The Memorial park was pretty damp and chilly when we arrived at the visitor centre; it was not long after dawn and the place was really quiet. It has been so busy during the lockdown that we were surprised at how clean it all was. We walked around the entire park and barely managed to fill one sack between us.

Pick or treat!

Sunday 1st November 2020

Written by Laura P (she/her)

5 GoodGym runners ran 5km and completed a Sunday morning litter pick in the War Memorial Park in Coventry.

It looked like someone had been celebrating halloween as we found cans, bottles and a few items of fancy dress! There were also the remains of a few fireworks. After our litter pick we did two laps of the park and admired the autumnal trees as well as having a good catch up.

Here's to 100 good deeds with GoodGym Coventry, looking forward to many, many more!

Litter sweet symphony

Tuesday 20th October 2020

Written by Liz Pharoah

On an autumnal Tuesday evening, 3 GoodGym Coventry members set off to tidy up the paths leading to Canley Ford.

The paths and hedgerows were hiding plenty of the usual bounty of bottles, crisp packets, chocolate wrappers and Mcdonalds rubbish. In addition to this we found bollards and empty bags of cement.

After we had tidied the area and collected 3 bags of rubbish, we completed a 3.2km run..

Super Sunday supporting, socialising and tidying up the Memorial Park.

Sunday 6th September 2020

Written by Liz Pharoah

On Sunday 6th September, 4 members of GoodGym Coventry supported the Friends of the Memorial Park with their litter pick. It was a lovely morning for a litter pick so the GoodGymmers didn't mind the early start to get started and tidy the area. The main paths were fairly tidy so Laura and Liz headed towards the wooded area at the top end of the park and found plenty of pop bottles, cans and sweet and crisp wrappers. Lil and Graeme headed around the perimeter park to clear that area. It was great to join in this litter pick as there were around 8 other volunteers also tidying the park. After the litter pick, we met at the cafe to enjoy Sausage sandwiches and coffee whilst sharing with the Friends team the work that GoodGym have been doing in the local area in the past 18 months.
