On Tuesday, six Good Gym members met Jane from The Green Grocers at the St Micheals church ground allotment. We welcomed Collen, a newbie diving into Good Gym with great enthusiasm ! Jane guided us splitting us into two teams. Dale, Jackie, Matt, and Collen tackled brambles to prep a composting bay , while Nigel, Georgia, and I wrestled with mesh and plastic tubing to shield brassica plants from butterflies 🦋. Securing the mesh was tricky, so we hatched a plan for washing line pegs to secure the mesh I dashed to the shop but only found tape labeled fragile !! a funny but shaky fix, that held for now .🙈 We completed the tasks, a good evening all together and Jane was really happy with the progress !🙌

On Tuesday evening, 4 GoodGymers headed to the Sherbourne allotment to lend a hand to the food Union . Over a relaxed 1.5 hours, Kicking things off, we teamed up to dismantle a tent marquee, with a bit of teamwork involved to take it down and store in the shed.
We then tackled two planting bays, clearing out old cardboard from a previous grow that didn’t quite take off. We also got stuck into some light weeding and soil prep, making the bays ready for their next planting spree.
. The evening was filled with great chats and good vibes as we worked together, enjoying the allotment . It was a chill, productive session, and we left the allotment in better shape.
Big thanks to everyone who came out and made it a great evening!

5 Goodgymers met at Lakeview park on a lovely sunny evening to tackle Himalayan balsam. This highly invasive species degrades river banks and outcompetes other native plants thereby reducing biodiversity in a vital green space in the middle of the city . We all quickly got to work ‘bashing the balsam’(pulling it out by its roots and snapping the stems before crushing them. ) We all got a chance to catch up with each other while clearing vast clumps of the dreaded plant. A great evenings work from all helping to promote biodiversity in Coventry’s green spaces
